The Pascal Method has been implemented in the educational system for more than four decades. But what does it consist of? Well, learning to learn has been the motto created by its founder José Pascal and which shaped the method, and allows students to boost their full potential by applying certain teaching practices to children.
Its positive results have been more than exposed since its inception, and then we will talk about the steps and objectives. But this is not applicable only to the classroom, since as parents we are priority witnesses of the domain of knowledge that the little ones can achieve using the bases of learning such as: organization, motivation or practice and the development of activities.
Steps to start applying the Pascal method
- The study time for each subject should always be planned (at home and in the classroom) , since in this way any type of improvisation in the study scheme will be completely ruled out and the children will be able to focus on the subject. Spending time on study skills will make this task much easier.
- The environment where the study activity takes place must meet a series of specific aspects such as perfect lighting in the place or a duration of no more than 1 hour and a half per subject, aspects of which we have already talked at length in this blog.
- The third point that we must always keep in mind before starting to work with the Pascal Method is to find adequate tranquility and silence to guarantee the attention of the little ones when learning.
Specific objectives of the Pascal Method
- Read ahead of time. The previous reading on the objective of the day is a technique that must be promoted by the teacher, supporting himself in the tasks for the next class.
- Read to understand. It is the most important step to know what is called “reading comprehension”, a key point for the development of learning in basic education.
- Use the underlining technique. The use of colors in the text gives the notebook a cheerful character and, in addition, allows to differentiate titles, subtitles and other objectives. It also helps to establish a search order when studying, something essential for a successful study and work.
- Support explanations with diagrams. The implementation of diagrams is a technique that helps to memorize information. In basic education, the implementation of mental maps has become the best existing study technique, and many variants and dynamics can be included in it, such as drawings, images and colors.
- Mnemonics . It is the technique that consists of comparing the topics seen in class with situations of daily life. In this way, association with reality and everyday life is stimulated and, through it, the learning process can be more fruitful.
- Make frequent reviews on the class seen. Complying with this premise will allow the student to master the subject, refresh knowledge and analyze it. So when the time comes for evaluation, it will be much easier for you to understand.
- Evaluation drills . The test and evaluation mockups are always recommended according to the Pascal Method after the analysis and work of each topic, since they are useful to fix contents before advancing further. Making flashcards on each subject can also help.
Achieving success applying the best learning strategies with the little ones is a task that should always be prioritized by a teacher, but also by parents, who are responsible for reinforcing these steps to create an essential habit of work , effort and study and to promote and enhance the cognitive development of their children for later stages.
