Gone are the days when the book was the only entertainment in the home. But such changes are not necessarily for the worse: after all, variety is always better than absence itself. However, a child accustomed from childhood to receiving information “visually” from the TV, tablet or mobile screen, will find it very difficult to get used to reading. The ability to understand, understand and assimilate the information of what is read, has become a utopia, making books less useful and relevant to them.

Reading a book in a more agile and fast way, understanding what you read, can be taught in school, but the real love of reading may only be learned from your parents. And getting it is not as difficult as it may seem, you just have to remember a few rules:

  1. Get him used to reading: It’s never too early. It is necessary for the reading process to become common to him. Let him see you with a book in his hands and remember that in each book a fantastic story is born for him. Make reading a regular ritual and read 5 to 7 times a week. The best thing many times is for the child to hold the book and turn the pages, so, even though he will not be able to read yet, he will begin to take the book as part of his daily life.
  2. Read a book with different voices and tones. Feel free to give the characters different voices: you will entertain the child much more and you will help him to follow the story better. Parents can even read alternately; that way, even if it is the same story, the child will realize that it can be read in various ways.
  3. Take your child to the library / bookstore. Teach a child to be interested in books by taking the initiative yourself. To do this, you can choose together a new book to read from any bookstore or library. Together with the help of the librarian or salesperson, you can help decide the most suitable range of books for the child.
  4. Read with a child more often . Nothing will mark the child more than your personal example. If he sees his parents regularly with a book in hand, he will be the best example to follow.
  5. Get ready to read the same book over and over again. Unfortunately, this is the most common characteristic of children: the same story can be heard over and over again, but for them it is as if it were the first. The same can be said for games, where it is played every day on the same stage, or for cartoons.
  6. Read something that you like . Little by little, the child will develop the need to constantly expand his world of reading. For this, sometimes you can make special nights to read the favorite books of the little ones, but we must not forget that all of us carry a small child inside and surely you would like to read a special book that reminds you of your childhood. Open that world to your child and allow him to expand his horizons. To all those good things that you will get, there is one more: that you will be closer to each other.

Okay. I disagree. Unfortunately I have a son who just looking at a book gives him hives. I am an avid reader, every day and when I have a little while I read a lot too. Well, my 10-year-old son has never, never liked books, stories, etc … He would never let me read one to him, he would shake it off, cry, etc … Every time I took out a story with pictures, they would approach me all the nephews and him at the other end of the room. Now he reads out of obligation and if he can escape, he will escape. What you comment here can motivate, but not in all cases it comes out, it has not worked for me …

Probably .. having been an inveterate reader .. made your child neglect the moments and the child associates the lack of attention to him because of his books …

The advice is very good and very useful, although it does not mean that it is a guarantee that the child will like reading, but I think that doing nothing is worse … Greetings!

You know, it would have been a good idea if instead of reading it you had memorized it and as a game you would tell him maybe so it would have been more relevant and interesting for him.

Without a doubt, tips to follow. Much of the success is in the example and perseverance. And okay, to read, “it’s never too early” a baby faced with a shower book or stuffing opens those big, fidgety eyes, we just accompany.
Greetings and we will share.

Good advices! I read stories to my daughter from the belly, in kindergarten she was dying to learn to read. He likes reading, also technology. I give you the freedom to use it, but I always remind you that there are activities without technology that are very fun, as simple as skating, going to the park that we practice them together. Even so, between the ages of 7 and 8 he had a gap with reading. Last year, with a story that he liked a lot, he returned to having a taste for reading, Now he is almost 10 years old, this Christmas he asked me for two literatures as a gift, one of them is about to finish.
He tells me that the books are like Netflix series, some with more than one “season” all with several chapters

HELLO:

I like your advice and as a comment above says it does not always work but please invite parents, great uncles, etc. not to give up before trying please.
Let’s not let children become slaves of social networks or video games, more reading equals more culture.
