That restless spirit of children to discover and learn new things every day makes them remain active from the moment they get up until they go to bed. That is why experiments are excellent activities that will help you keep children busy while developing their cognitive power , especially in summer when there is so much free time. Take advantage of this summer to stay home and boost your children’s knowledge with fun activities that also serve to learn. We will support you by giving you interesting ideas that are easy to develop from your home, such as this ” Decorative Rainbow ” water experiment, ideal to do with children in summer.
And if you want to discover more experiments, be sure to visit our main page of the Forest of Fantasies, since in it you will find many more experiments for children of different categories : chemistry, physics, biology , fun, Halloween, Christmas … ideal to practice at home or at school always with the supervision of an adult. It’s very important! What are you waiting for?
We do a fun experiment with water
Decorative rainbow
The decorative rainbow is an ideal experiment for children in the first phase of learning, since its beauty in the result makes it quite attractive for the little ones and also for the older ones. It is an experiment that can be carried out by any child from 5 years of age, under the supervision of their parents or other responsible adults if it takes place outside the home, as is the case with teachers at school.
Regarding its results, this experiment will allow children to understand the most basic notions of science , such as that liquids have different densities.
Materials for its execution
- A tall glass (it can be champagne).
- A teaspoon.
- Syrup.
- Honey.
- Water.
- Sunflower oil.
- Olive oil.
- Alcohol.
Steps to carry it out
- Place the champagne glass on the table and make sure it is clean.
- Use the spoon as a measure to pour the liquids into the glass.
- Start by adding a tablespoon of syrup and then gently add the other liquids such as: honey, water, sunflower oil, olive oil, and alcohol.
The result is that through the glass it can be seen that the liquids do not join due to the difference that exists between the densities, forming a beautiful rainbow. In this case, the syrup will always be at the bottom because there are more syrup atoms than water atoms occupying the same space, and consequently the material is heavier. While alcohol will always stay on top because unlike syrup, this one is lighter.
This same experiment has its variants and you can try it with other fluids such as: salted water, vinegar, glycerin… and you can use different dyes to identify glycerin and water. Give it a try and create a sample of the primary colors . What are the results incredible? Well, there are many more experiments with which to learn and have fun!
Playing is the best way to learn, and if it is by your side and in the comfort of your home, much better. And, in addition to learning , you will be able to strengthen ties of affinity with your children and wonderful memories of summer for a lifetime.
