Without a doubt, one of the biggest fears a parent can have is the fact that their children may get lost . For this it is vital that we educate our little ones in the sense of orientation, safety and responsibility, among others, but not even the best education in the world can sometimes free us from such unpleasant situations in life as losing sight without love our child or get lost and away from us for any reason.
I wish that no parent had to go through the uneasiness of this experience, but it is always good to prevent and provide our children with practical resources that they could apply in case this happens.
Rules to apply for the safety of your children
- Learn their name and surname correctly, as well as that of their parents, their telephone number and their address.
- Learn emergency numbers by heart, such as 112 or the one corresponding to your country.
- If your child becomes disoriented, he / she should try to stay in that place and not get scared and run the other way. This will make it easier for you to retrace your own steps to find him.
- Tell them about urban security professionals, such as police officers, as well as professionals in common and safe places, such as libraries. In case of getting lost, your child will know who to confidently turn to for help.
- In open places, it should always go hand in hand with you or with people from your family environment.
- Always point out meeting points in large places where they can go in case of loss.
- Make a card with the necessary contact information and laminate it so you can keep it in your backpack or pocket.
- If your child suffers from allergies or suffers from a serious illness, mark it on the identification card.
- If you are going out in large and / or crowded places, dress your child in a characteristic way or in colors that are easy to identify.
- Teach your child not to be ashamed to yell in public in case it is necessary to call you or to get the attention of other adults in case of danger.
